In my piece called, What Motherhood Asks of Us? I speak to the various ways becoming a mother is a journey of self-development.  I invert the focus from the influence of mothers on children, to one on how children shapes a mother's own growth and learning. Raising vulnerable others (animals, or aging parents included) teaches unwittingly about many of the core tenants of the world wisdom traditions: mindfulness, compassion, patience, trust, ego-death and paradox.  Many times what is asked of parents by their children may run counter to the larger culture that demands productivity and efficiency. How do parents reconcile living in these two competing cultures? Happy Mother's Day! Read full article here.
